Rangefinder
A rangefinder is a radio navigation device that determines the slant distance between an aircraft and a ground answering station. It consists of an airborne interrogator and a ground answering station. A method of determining the distance between the two by measuring the time required for a round trip of radio waves from an aircraft to a radio station. In aviation, the pulse wave near 1000MHz is used to inquire and answer, and its action distance is about 500km, which is used on the air route. In addition, in order to match the approach landing with the microwave landing system, a precision rangefinder has been developed to improve the accuracy by using the waveform of the pulse front with a faster rising rate, and its operating distance is about 40km. The working frequency of the two rangefinders is the same and can work compatibly.

The rangefinder is a tool for measuring length or distance, and can be combined with angle measuring equipment or modules to measure angle, area and other parameters. There are many forms of rangefinder, usually a long cylinder, which is composed of objective lens, eyepiece, display device (which can be built in), battery and so on.
Laser rangefinders can also emit multiple laser pulses to determine whether an object is moving away or close to the light source through the Doppler effect.
Laser rangefinder classification
Common rangefinders can be divided into short-range, medium-range and elevation rangefinders from the range. Modulation objects used by rangefinders can be divided into: photoelectric rangefinders, acoustic rangefinders.
Laser rangefinders generally use two methods to measure distance: pulse method and phase method. The process of pulse method ranging is as follows: the laser emitted by the rangefinder is received by the rangefinder after being reflected by the measured object, and the rangefinder records the time of the laser round trip at the same time. Half the product of the speed of light and the round-trip time is the distance between the rangefinder and the object being measured. The accuracy of measuring distance by pulse method is generally about/- 1 meter. In addition, the measurement blind area of such rangefinders is generally about 15 meters.
